The 57th Annual Drama Desk Awards for excellence in New York theater were
presented tonight at a gala awards ceremony at The Town Hall in midtown Manhattan. Brooke Shields and Brian
d'Arcy James co-hosted the awards ceremony. I Once, the new musical based on a critically acclaimed feature film, led the parade of winners with four Drama Desk Awards, including trophies for Outstanding Musical, Outstanding Director (John Tiffany), Outstanding Lyrics (Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova) and Outstanding Orchestrations (Martin Lowe). Following, with three Drama Desk Awards each, were: Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman for Outstanding Revival of a Play, Outstanding Director(Mike Nichols) and Outstanding Lighting Design (Brian MacDevitt); One Man, Two Guvnors for Outstanding Actor in a Play (James Corden), Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play (Tom Edden) and Outstanding Music in a Play (Grant
Olding); and the new Gershwin musical, Nice Work «You Can Get It for Outstanding Featured Actor and Featured Actress in a Musical (Michael McGrath and Judy Kaye) and Outstanding Book of a Musical (Joe DiPietro.
Nina Raine's Tribes was voted Outstanding Play jnd Follies won Outstanding Revival of a Musical. Audra McDonald (The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess) won as Outstanding Actress in a Musical, Tracie Bennett (End of the
Rainbow) was voted Outstanding Actress in a Play and Danny Burstein (Follies) won as Outstanding Actor in a Musical.
Judith Light (Other Desert Cities) won the Drama Desk Award as Outstanding Featured Actress in a Play.
Newsies The Musical captured two Drama Desk Awards which went to Alan Menken (Outstanding Music) and
Christopher Gattelli (Outstanding Choreography). The Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Revue went to The Best Is Yet To Come: The Music of Cy Coleman and Cililan Murphy (Misterman) won for Outstanding Solo Performance. Gob
Squad's Kitchen (You've Never Had Had It So Good) was voted the Drama Desk for Unique Theatrical Experience.
Design awards were given to: Jon Driscoll, Rob Howell and Paul Kieve (Ghost The Musical) for Outstanding
Set Design; Gregg Barnes (Follies), Outstanding Costume IDesign; Acme Sound Partners (The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess), Outstanding Sound Design in a Musical; and John Gromada (Gore Vidal's The Best Man), Outstanding Sound Design in a Play. -
